WQED Pittsburgh, honored with the 2007 and 2006 Mid-Atlantic Emmy® Award for Station Excellence, was founded in 1954 as the nation's first community-supported broadcaster. WQED creates, produces and distributes quality programs, products and services to engage, inform, educate and entertain the public within its community and around the world. WQED Pittsburgh is one of the first broadcasters in the country to be fully high-definition (HD) in its studio and field production capabilities. Current Positions

Account Executive

The Account Executive is responsible for generating revenue for WQED Multimedia by developing and furthering relationships with clients to insure continued support for the organization's broadcast products and services.

Responsibilities:

  • Develop and present proposals to meet pre-determined needs of client for presentations.
  • Write contract request forms.
  • Develop schedule of announcements and deliver to FM and Production Assistant for traffic placement.
  • Write announcements for client approval and deliver to FM traffic person and/or Production Assistant along with video components.
  • Develop promotional and/or underwriting ideas for clients.
  • Collect payment from clients.
  • Generate new business through targeting prospects.
  • Maintain up-to-date information of broadcast businesses as well as client business.
  • Develop a list of targeted media and matching prospect's needs with WQED program/strategies.
  • Contact prospective client – pre-determine needs and set up appointments.
  • Volunteer for station events and perform other company projects as needed.

Required education and skills:

  • Associate's Degree or equivalent experience is required. A Bachelor's Degree is preferred.
  • One year of sales and marketing experience, preferably in the broadcast industry, is required.
  • Candidate must have a working knowledge of sales techniques and broadcast industry sales along with excellent customer service and social media skills.

Digital Content Associate (Part-time Position)

The purpose of this position is to develop and produce video content for WQED’s website, associated websites and social media platforms.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Suggest and research ideas for new digital content
  • Assume full production responsibilities when designated as lead producer of content
  • Assist other lead producer/colleagues in organizing, shooting or editing their content
  • Meet with colleagues and supervisors to discuss ideas/proposed content
  • Upon approval, set up interviews, schedule shoots
  • Coordinate supporting staff for shoot (camera, audio support)
  • Obtain all permissions and consent forms related to the above
  • Shoot interviews and video for direct-to-web usage
  • Produce/edit direct-to-web video content
  • Meet assigned deadlines
  • Work with graphic designer to obtain design elements to enhance video content
  • Screen final edited content with supervisor
  • Screen with fellow team members when applicable
  • Make editing changes as suggested by supervisor
  • Provide interactive team with all video, narratives, images to ensure proper internet exhibition.
  • Shoot/produce/edit promos related to digital content.
  • Utilize social media and interactive tools to distribute video content and promotional materials

Required education and skills:

  • Premiere Pro and AVID experience is preferred but not mandatory.
  • High school diploma or equivalent plus some video/audio production training
  • 3 months to a 1-year related experience

Digital Engagement Specialist

The Digital Engagement Specialist is responsible for management, development, and implementation of various membership programs with the goal of establishing better member relationships which will ultimately lead to better member retention.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Develop new and creative digital campaigns to engage and inform current and prospective members.
  • Create and maintain a digital communication calendar. Work with social media manager and others as necessary to disseminate messaging across platforms.
  • Work with outside agencies to conduct digital prospecting to convert potential donors into members.
  • Work with Interactive department to ensure fundraising content on our website remains current and accurate.   
  • Provide regular reports to evaluate campaign performance and measure effectiveness.
  • Review and approve e-solicitation copy and design elements to ensure messaging is consistent and branded appropriately.
  • Identify, coordinate, and execute events for specific membership segments.
  • Identify new and creative ways to engage current and prospective members. Develop and execute campaigns accordingly.
  • Support all activities related to the maintenance and growth of WQED’s Sustainer program.
  • Identify and implement benefit programs that add value to membership.
  • Support on air fundraising activities as needed.
  • Maintain accurate member records within database and assist with data clean up processes.
  • Support efforts to build member profiles and increase the overall percentage of email addresses on file.
  • Work with team members to identify, investigate, and resolve account irregularities within database.
  • Gather necessary content and fully produce monthly Digital Guide and bi-monthly e-newsletter.

Required education and skills:

  • Bachelor’s Degree required.
  • 1-3 years of experience required.
  • This position requires knowledge of Microsoft Office and database experience. 
  • This position requires a good understanding of fundraising efforts. 
  • Must have experience with Adobe Creative Suite, especially InDesign and Photoshop
  • Superior written, verbal, and visual communication skills
  • Technical aptitude to be able to quickly learn new technologies
  • Strong project management skills and ability to work with staff across departments

Donor Engagement and Event Specialist

The Donor Engagement and Event Specialist is responsible for identifying, coordinating, and implementing donor recognition and stewardship opportunities: mail, events, small meetings, lunch and learn, tours, volunteer opportunities, screenings, etc. The purpose of these activities is to engage prospects, acquire new donors, and cultivate and strengthen relationships with existing major donors.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Support development efforts by working throughout the organization to identify, collaborate and coordinate opportunities for donors to become further engaged with WQED.
  • Develop and coordinate ongoing assessment activities designed to determine the needs and interests of donors.
  • Develop, coordinate, and implement activities designed to recognize and steward donors, and volunteers.
  • Establish, maintain, and follow timelines for event planning activities. 
  • Develop opportunities to engage donors and promote events through social media and other multi-media platforms.
  • Follow-up with donors post-event to assess results and ensure donor needs are met. Respond and report as needed.
  • Work with the WQED corporate team to identify and secure underwriting for cultivation and engagement activities and events.
  • Assist with the recruitment and supervision of volunteers to support development efforts and needs: mailings, events, office work, seasonal etc.
  • Help to establish a formalized volunteer program including process and procedures that foster engagement and support the work of the organization.
  • Develop, coordinate and implement one signature WQED fund raising event.  Work with underwriting to identify corporate benefits and assist in identifying, soliciting, and securing sponsors.
  • Assist with fund-raising and related activities with department to contribute to overall departmental success.
  • Inform others in fund-raising department about activities and issues through meetings and reports.
  • Volunteer for and participate in organizational committees and events, as needed and able.
  • Support the Director of Development and Development Associate as needed.
  • Ensure accuracy and consistency in donor records and databases.
  • Perform Queries and produce reports as requested
  • Segment data for event management.

Required education and skills:

  • Bachelor’s Degree required.
  • 3-5 years of experience required.
  • Strong organizational skills and ability to manage and coordinate multiple activities simultaneously.
  • Excellent interpersonal, written communication, analytical, and customer service skills.
  • Creative and strategic-thinking abilities
  • Experience in producing large and small events
  • Good understanding of fundraising efforts   
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office and database experience.
