Central Presbyterian Church - Mar 12, 2019

The Academy Chamber Ensemble presents A Bassoon Runs Through It  with Bassoonist Amy Baker joining Warren Davidson as part of the concert series at Central Presbyterian Church, 305 Allegheny Street, Tarentum.  The concert begins at 4:00 P.M., and includes music of Mozart, Beethoven, and the Quintet for Contrabassoon and Strings by Willy Hess.  A Goodwill Offering will be received, and refreshments will follow the concert.  David Rankin, one of the organizers of the series and cellist  Paige Riggs have the details for Jim Cunningham.

James Blachly - Hidden Gems - Mar 8, 2019

This Saturday (3/9), 7:30pm at the Pasquerilla Performing Arts Center, the Johnstown Symphony Orchestra performs "Hidden Gems: Orchestral Music of Black Composers."  JSO Music Director talked to WQED-FM's Jim Cunningham about the concert.

Edgewood Symphony Orchestra Music Director Walter Morales and violinist Monique Mead stopped by WQED-FM to talk about the ESO concert this Saturday, March 9th, 7:30pm at the Katz Performing Arts Center.   The concert includes Borodin's "In the Steppes of Central Asia", Dvorak''s 7th Symphony and Monique Mead performing the Beethoven Violin Concerto.  

Tom Cipullo - Glory Denied - Mar 1, 2019

New York based composer Tom Cipullo tells the dramatic story of Glory Denied his opera performed by Pittsburgh Opera Friday March 1 and Sunday March 3 2019 at the Opera Headquarters in the Strip District.  It’s based on the true story and the book by Tom Philpott of the Vietnam veteran imprisoned longer than anyone who returns to find the world very different. Cipullo is returning to Pittsburgh after an earlier visit to hear his music performed by David Stock and the Pittsburgh New Music Ensemble. He talked with Jim Cunningham on the QED Morning Show

Tom Philpott - Glory Denied - Mar 1, 2019

Tom Philpott is the author "Glory Denied: The Vietnam Saga of Jim Thompson."  The book was made into an opera, which Pittsburgh Opera is currently performing.  Tom stopped by WQED-FM to chat with Anna Singer about the book and the opera.
