Pianist David Allen Wehr holds the Jack W. Geltz Distinguished Piano Chair at Duquesne University. He introduces the third season of Schubert on the Bluff with guest composer Claude Debussy. The first concert is Tuesday September 26th but the programs continue through April 15th and two will be given in Foxburg Pa for the Allegheny Riverstone Arts Center. David plays the slow movement of the Schubert Sonata in c minor D. 958 in the studio on the Gibson Capital Management Steinway. Topics discussed include Schubert and Debussy’s romantic life and the special features of the upcoming season including violinist and former Pittsburgh Symphony Concertmaster Noah Bendix Balgley now installed with the Berlin Philharmonic as concertmaster on Tuesday February 27 in the only date he had available this season for North American concerts.
The Enso String Quartet make their debut for Chamber Music Pittsburgh September 18, 2017 at Carnegie Music Hall. Violist Melissa Reardon and cellist Richard Belcher explain the name of the ensemble, fill us in on the history of the group, and introduce Ginastera, Pleyel and Puccini.
The Wilkinsburg Community Development Corporation presents “Meet me at the Station” - Saturday September 30th at 6pm. Tom Roberts and the Allegheny City Ragtime Orchestra will play and present silent films with Attack Theater dancing. Marlee Gallagher, Communications and Outreach Coordinator, and Sophia Yeung, Development Coordinator for the WCDC, explain why they are focusing their efforts on redeveloping Wilkinsburg’s train station built in 1917. The gala participants will have a chance to see inside the station with an architect led tour. Marlee and Sophia also fill us in on the many exciting efforts being made to further develop Wilkinsburg as a place to live and start a business.
